Odd Inverter Behavior
While checking out the inverter today, I found that sometimes it will successfully enable the motors. It also seems that once the motors have been enabled once, I can move them and reenable them as many times as I want. This makes me think that the problem is the surge current when the motors are first enabled. I think this causes a momentary voltage drop that knocks out the control circuitry in the IRC5. I was unable to capture the startup transient of the motors enabling, but I bet it was greater than 2kW (the maximum rated surge current for the inverter).
You can also see below that this is not a pure sine wave inverter (it was advertised as being one). Fortunately, this doesn’t seem to be a problem for the IRC5.
