Rails Almost Done

1 minute read

Bought a new set of drill bits so I could drill the mounting holes in all of the rails. Using the thrown-together machine shop, I drilled the mounting holes for all of the rails except for the two long rails that the arm is mounted to. I also need to remake (cut, face, and drill) the short piece that goes between the long rails that the Kinect mounts to. I messed up the first version trying to drill out the hole in a single pass before I bought the drill bit set.

I assembled the back part of the frame and started assembling the front. I won't be able to finish the front until after I machine the pieces I mentioned above. All of the connecting rails on the sides are done, so I should be ready to assemble tomorrow or Tuesday. Once the frame is assembled, I will check that the IRC5fits inside of it, but I won't be able to mount it to the robot or install the IRB120 permanently until I get the plates in that I ordered. Wyatt sent in the order for that today, so hopefully they'll be here by the end of the week.

Also, I'll probably have to mill a little bit off of the back rail to accommodate the power connector on the IRC5.
